Joan "Ma" Murley Haba was born April 7, 1931 to Vera Neal and George Murley in Frederick, OK. She was a devoted wife and mother who was cherished and loved a great deal by her family and all who knew her. She passed away after sudden and brief heart trouble, together with family and friends, as she asked with complete trust "God, please come and get me."
Like her mother, Joan was an only child, and the two of them remained close all of their lives. She was predeceased by her mother, Vera Neal Murley, her father George Murley, and her deeply-loved husband of 66 years, John Haba, who shared a profound devotion to his beloved wife. She is survived by daughter Janice White (David) and son Luke Snyder, daughter Julie Haba and children, Lauren Rodriguez, Andrea Rivera (Thomas), John Paul Haba, Thomas Rodriguez, and Marianna Rodriguez, and great-granddaughter Araceli Rodriguez (Andrea & Thomas), brother-in-laws Andy Haba, Joe Haba (Sandy) and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Joan had a passion for serving others her entire life. While she worked in offices over the years, and is remembered fondly by her co-workers, primarily, she was a home-maker, a daughter, a wife, a mother, a neighbor and a friend. Every single day her husband and family enjoyed a warm, home-cooked meal made with love and dedication. Everyone who knew her benefitted from her desire to show fondness and care through cooking and baking, as well as through thoughtful, painstakingly chosen, greeting cards complete with special stickers and inserts for every life event and sometimes, just because. No matter how tired or even sick Joan was, she found a way to bring joy to others in these ways and was a tremendous example to us all of great generosity of spirit.
Joan understood that every human being, no matter how small or how old, is created in the image and likeness of God and deserves genuine attention, truth, love and respect. Her family learned from her example to not be afraid to speak warmly and authentically with friends and with strangers, co-workers, the boss, the man on the street, the long-time clerk at a frequented store, the plumber, or electrician who just came for the day, with men and women of all races and creeds and socio-economic statuses. Love your neighbor as yourself was clearly lived throughout Joan's long blessed life.
