JoAnn Jones departed this life, July 5, 2020, also the wedding anniversary of Jerome Lamont and Debra Denise Jones Rogers. JoAnn was born October 19, 1946, in Dallas, Texas to the late Joseph and Edith Petty. She received her early education in Dallas, Texas, at Charles Rice Elementary and continued her education at J.N. Irvin Jr. and High School. JoAnn received Christ at an early age at Munger Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas under the leadership of the late Reverend Joshua'.
On September 14, 1963, JoAnn was united, in Holy matrimony, with L.V. Jones Jr. and to this union two children were born, Rodderick De'Non and Debra Denise. In September of 1965 the family moved to Los Angeles, California. Later they accepted Kiesha Brittine Murray as their daughter. She was dedicated wife and devoted mother to her kids and a host of other kids both male and female. The kids called her Mama, Granna, Auntie or Ms. J.
JoAnn was employed by the General Motors Corporation and the County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation from where she retired in 2011. She enjoyed planning activities for the youth community, such as, drill team competitions, including the first Juneteenth Gospel Concert preceded by a drill team competition, Magic Johnson Carnivals at the Magic Johnson Park, which included the presence of Magic Johnson. With an incredible staff, all working together as supervisors and managers Art Jones, Judy Jones and Earma Cardon an amazing staff at Florence Firestone, El Camino and the Southeast District created an unstoppable team for the South Agency of the Department of Parks and Recreation that provided opportunities to showcase talent at the Will Rogers Park by creating positive atmosphere for up and coming recording artist such as Watts 2000 founder Tyrese Brandy, Ray J, YN-Vee, An So On, J Son and Boiz N Blaq. Pro tennis players Serena and Venus Williams also mentored the youth at Will Rogers Park. This team ensured that the youth and community were able to perform at the Super Bowl with Michael Jackson, along with getting an unforgettable memory at Michael Jackson's Never, Never Land.
A positive atmosphere for children of all ages was created by JoAnn. She made a way for Senior activities such as, The Taste of Heights Wine, Casino trips, line and swing dance classes while managing the Yvonne Brathwaite Burke Senior Center, working alongside Yvonne Brathwaite Burke (the first Afro-American woman elected to the California State Assembly), her assistant Doris Lacour and Mark Ridley-Thomas California State Senator.
JoAnn leaves to cherish memories, son, Rodderick De'None; daughters, Debra Denise and Keisha Brittine; daughter-in-law, Precious Jones; son in law, Jerome Jones Rogers; grandchildren, Nickeya and (grand son-in-law), Ahmaud Smith; Rodderick De'None II and O'Tijera (grand daughter-in law) Jones; Darshay, Kierra, Jonesha, Preshay, Gavin, Alicia, Austin, Vonitra and Gayneshia; great-grand children, Ahmaya, Ahmaud II, Jaylan, Rylan, Rodderick DeNone III, Dallas, Jh'Coris, William, Andre Jr., Dillion, Chey'Anne and Noah; her sisters Beverly Gaston, Carolyn Young, Teresa Cooks and Wansa Everett, preceded her in death; sister-in-laws, Linda Jean, Ruth Delores, Beverly, Debra and Mildred, preceded her in death; brother-in laws, James Albert Jones, Henry Leroy Jones, David Allen Jones, Paul Cooks I "Brother", Floyd Gaston Sr., Frank Everett and Clyde Billingslea, who preceded her in death; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
