JoAnn was born in Greenbrier County, West Virginia on MAY 9, 1934, to Ralph J. Ramsey and Mary Ruth Shawver. She graduated from Lafayette High School and continued to receive her diploma in nursing from Sacred Heart Hospital in Lexington, KY. Stateside, she often took road trips to Florida and Kentucky to see her parents and extended family. She was active in her home parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, and was a familiar face at her organ classes with Friends Playing For Friends.
