

Jody Kothmann Powers, 61, also widely known as “The Crazy Kolache Lady” gently passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at her residence in Dallas surrounded by her loving family. In life, she met every challenge head on and her fight against Plasma Cell Leukemia was no exception. Her fearless walk through this journey was truly an inspiration to all who knew her. Born and raised in Fort Worth her last 10 years were spent as baker extraordinaire and owner of Zamykal Gourmet Kolaches in Calvert, TX where she entertained customers from across the country. She and her twin sister Judy began singing at an early age as members of the singing trio known as “The Upstarts,” three time winners of the talent competition, The Ted Mack Amateur Hour.” Her special talents included singing, song writing, acting, dancing, cheerleading, tumbling, steer riding, goat roping, horse training, rodeo trick riding, scuba diving, and kayaking. She also had a passion for costume, landscape, and interior design. Her family and friends will remember her loving spirit, boundless enthusiasm for life, and her perpetual energy.
Jody was preceded in death by her parents Karl and Judy Kothmann. Survivors include her son, Cody Powers and wife Jo, daughter, Tara McGraw and husband Robert, and 4 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
