Joel M. Lebovitz

We are saddened at the unexpected passing, on February 20, 2010, of our much loved son, Joel Maurice Peter Lebovitz. He was born in Dallas, Texas on February 4, 1970 to Robert M. and the late Joyce Guberman Lebovitz. After junior college in Austin, he was among the earliest to see the potential of the Uptown area. He and two partners created the popular Thomas Average Beverage Company Restaurant in 1995 and, later, the 2900 Restaurant, both in the State Thomas District. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his father Dr. Robert M. Lebovitz and stepmother Joyce Sanders; brothers Mark Lebovitz & wife Michelle, and Richard Lebovitz & wife Angelita, all of Austin; nephews and niece Elliot, Alec, Vincent and Danielle; step-brothers Michael LoSasso & wife Donna, of Plano, Craig LoSasso & wife Jean of Salem, Oregon; step-nephews and nieces Michael, Nicholas, Aidan, Lydia, Abriana & Cooper; his uncles and aunts Alan Lebovitz & wife Marjorie, of Cucamonga, CA, Todd Guberman of Minneapolis, Bruce Guberman, Stan Guberman, Barbara Lebow & husband Max, and Audrey Simmons, all of Los Angeles; and his retriever, Jack. Joel was a helpful friend to many; all will miss him greatly. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that his passing may be marked by a gift to a favorite charity or simply the memory of his smile.
