Obituary of John A. Allen Sr.
IN THE CARE OF

Laurel Land Funeral Home & Laurel Land Memorial Park

John, 91, a man of strong faith, peacefully passed away in the Hospice Center of the Bluegrass at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky on June 21, 2012. Funeral services are scheduled for June 27, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. in the Laurel Land Funeral Home chapel, Dallas, Texas. Burial, along with the ashes of his beloved and faithful dog, Booger, will follow in the Court of Memories at Laurel Land Memorial Park. Paul Gilbert and Mark Dale, church friends, will be officiating.

John was a native Texan who was born in Fort Worth and lived in the Houston and Dallas areas most of his life. In 1995, he moved to Kentucky where he spent some of his most memorable times on a mini-farm named Green Acres.

John graduated from Jefferson Davis High School, Houston, Texas in 1938. He, subsequently, joined the United States Marine Corp and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II where he received numerous commendations and medals. Upon returning home, John was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) where he retired, as an Area Manager, with over thirty six years of service. After John's retirement, he enjoyed his favorite hobbies of golfing and fishing.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Rosa Castillo Allen and Charles N. Allen, and five siblings; David Allen, Charlie Allen, Lydia Margos, Dolores Walker and Juanita Vineyard.

John is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Marieda and his three children by a previous marriage; Barbara A. Conn, John A. Allen, Jr. and Dr. James F. Allen. He is, also, survived by four grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
