Dad lived his childhood in old east Dallas also known as Lakewood. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School and graduated from Crozier Tech. After a couple of years of college at UT in Austin, he enlisted in the Army Air Force in April 1943. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and honorably discharged with several medals and commendations in 1946.
Dad settled back in Dallas and met the love of his life, Patsy Ruth Inez Galloway, on a blind date setup by a close friend. They were married approximately six months later in Ardmore, OK where Patsy’s sister, Thera Elles and husband lived. Dad and Patsy made their home in Dallas and started to work on a family. They had three children – Melinda, Kurt and Tammy.
All of Dad’s career was spent in the oil industry. He did laboratory analyst work for Atlantic Oil and Refining Company for 18 years and Core Laboratories for 21 years. He and Patsy had several entrepreneur business adventures - a wood stove distributorship and also a DQ type hamburger stand at Lake Tawakoni. Both were fun and memorable but Dad decided to retire and moved them permanently to the farm, a place he had bought years prior just 10 miles outside of Terrell, Texas.
His interests were all centered around the Farm. It was everything to him. He built a small cabin in the woods in the early 60s, then a retirement home in the mid 80s, a barn, and a large garden. He ran cattle on the acreage along with a couple of horses. He liked to plant and harvest coastal Bermuda for many years well into his 80's. Later in Patsy's life he could be seen taking walks up and down their farm road for her health and to visit with his brother JD Brown.
Dad made many friends in Terrell where he attended church as an avid Christian and follower of Jesus Christ. Dad was also known to have Jimmy Swaggert on television going at high volume on any given day.
