Born March 12, 1953, to Eduardo and Ninfa Cardenas in Brownsville, TX, John grew up in Irving, TX.
John married Leslie Moon on April 13th, 1985, in Charleston, WV.
He is survived by his wife, Leslie Cardenas of Dallas, TX; sons, Michael Cardenas (Monzerrat) of Dallas, TX and Matthew Cardenas (Courtney) of Austin, TX; granddaughter, Marcella Jo Cardenas of Dallas, TX; sister, Sara Parry of Lewisville, TX; brothers, Edward Cardenas (Cathe) of Tulsa, OK, Thomas Cardenas (Sheryl) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Christopher Cardenas (Kelly) of Flower Mound, TX.
Preceded in death by his parents Eduardo and Ninfa Cardenas.
John was a devoted husband and father. A lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan – he tried to travel to at least one away game every year – one of his favorites was when he took his family to London to watch the Cowboys win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Wembley Stadium. As a 1976 graduate of the University of Texas, he also was a die-hard Longhorn fan. He graduated from Irving High School in 1971.
He was currently employed at the Hach Company and retired from IBM.
A fierce competitor at any game, John especially loved cards, golf and backgammon. On the rare occasion he was losing he would invoke “the Texas Press” and keep his opponent playing until he finally won. He loved to “roll the dice” and never lost money – he always “broke even”!
