Born with Down Syndrome, John lived a life filled with joy, humor, and boundless love. His silliness was contagious, and his presence a source of light. He had a remarkable gift for making people smile with his joy of little things and warm hugs.
John found delight in the simple pleasures that made life rich: coloring while listening to his favorite music - especially The Monkees, The Association, Bee Gees, Reba McEntire, and Christmas songs that filled his world with warmth. He was an avid football fan, always sharing who was playing and who won on game day.
He is survived by a loving family:
- Sister Kathleen Crist Ruyle and husband Ron Ruyle and family
- Sister Terry Crist Neuhalfen and husband Dick Neuhalfen and family
- Sister Karen Crist DePaolis and husband Peter DePaolis and family
- Brother Larry Crist and wife Gwen
- Sister Charlotte Crist Ringman and husband Sam Ringman and family
- Sister Kitty Ruisinger Fleming and husband Bill Fleming and family
- Brother Don Ruisinger, Jr. and wife Julie and family
John also shared a deep and enduring friendship with Donna Bluhm and her family, whose love and companionship brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Lawrence Crist, Margaret Ann and Don Ruisinger, Sr., and Mary Ruisinger—all of whom now welcome him with open arms.
John’s life was a testament to the power of love, laughter, and living authentically. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A memorial service will be held on 9/19/25 at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Special Olympics Texas, supporting athletes with intellectual disabilities, or to a local hospice organization in your area.
