

John Cabot Foster passed away peacefully at the age of 92 in Dallas, Texas on Friday, November 12, 2010, with his children present. John was born July 15, 1918, in El Paso to Sebastian and Beulah Foster. John graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, TX and attended Tarleton State College and Texas A&M University. He was married to Mary Eugenia (Gene) Noble on September 29, 1942 in Shreveport, LA John served in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II as a Captain in the 7th Armored Division, 432nd Engineering Battalion and was captured in Belgium during the Battle of the Bulge, and was held as a prisoner of war for 13 months. He also served during the Korean War. John retired from the U.S. Army Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel. He worked 36 years for Houston Lighting and Power Company and retired in 1983. He was a 46 year resident of Pasadena, Texas. John was a member of Houston’s East End Lions Club, the Houston Chamber of Commerce, serving as President in 1967, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, the Pasadena Rotary Club, the Pasadena Livestock & Rodeo Association and Houston’s East End YMCA. He also served on the Vestry of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, in Pasadena. John loved the Texas Aggies, travelling throughout the United States and Canada with Mary Gene, and being with his family. His memory will be cherished by his children, Marylin (Ernie) Carey of Dallas, Texas; Walter (Julie) Foster of Coto De Caza, California; and John (Barbara) Foster of Story City, Iowa. Grandchildren are Robert Carey, Jackson Foster, Madeline Foster, David Foster, Jeannie (David) Schwendtner and Austin Foster. His wife, Mary Gene, and his parents preceded John in death. A memorial service will be held in Dallas, Texas on December 11, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. The family thanks the many caring people who offered their kindness, prayers and concern especially those at C.C Young and Monticello West in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
