

John F. Giles, III, 82, was a life-long resident of Dallas where he was born on February 12, 1929 and died on September 29, 2011. He grew up in Highland Park and attended Holy Trinity School, Jesuit College Preparatory School, The University of Notre Dame, and Southern Methodist University Law School. He was employed by the Ford Motor Company, Heublein, Inc., and was self-employed in investments. He was also the owner of the 121 Ranch in San Saba, Texas where he spent many happy days with his family and friends.
John enjoyed membership in numerous civic and social organizations and was on the Board of Trustees for the Special Care School, Scoutmaster for Troop 83 of the Boys Scouts of America, a founding member of Ronald Reagan’s Young Americans for Freedom, and a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Club of Dallas, Texas Cattle Raisers Association, Southwest Cattle Raisers Association, Southern Methodist University Alumni Association, Dallas Petroleum Club, Texas Farm Bureau, Buffalo Bill Historical Center, National Rifle Association, Calyx Club, Terpsichorean Club, Dervish, Y.O. Social Club, and the Ranch Heritage Association.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Zaida. He is survived by Penny, his wife of 49 years, his daughter Gena and her husband Steve Lillis, his daughter Gretchen, and his beloved grandchildren, Ryan and Ashley Lillis. The visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11:00 am at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Young America’s Foundation, 110 Elden St., Herndon, VA 20170 or the Boy Scouts of America Circle 10 Council, 8605 Harry Hines, Dallas, TX 75235.
