John Michael Jackson

Born to Clyde C. Jackson and Mel Mitchell Jackson in 1945, John lived his entire life in University Park. He treasured the friendships that began in University Park Elementary, UP Methodist Church, and later Highland Park High School. He loved playing sports from the days of the UP Ponies through his high school years in baseball and football, where he was nicknamed "the Wounded Buffalo." He coached his sons' YMCA teams, a caring and encouraging mentor for each team member. He later loved cheering on his sons and grandsons at Highlander Stadium, his granddaughters at cross country meets, and seeing his grandchildren become third-generation HPScots.

John graduated from SMU with a BBA degree, specializing in real estate, followed by his law degree at SMU School of Law. He pledged Phi Delta Theta where he made many lifelong friends. His sophomore year John met Kathy Winniford and quickly informed her that he would marry her. Thankfully, his snap decision resulted in 54 years of happy and devoted marriage.

As a practicing attorney and real estate broker, John was proud to be one of the first Dallas realtors to receive the CCiM designation. He enjoyed many years of development, sales, and investments in real estate. He later focused on his law practice, and his clients became friends who appreciated his supportive encouragement as well as his legal advice. Snider Plaza was one of John's main professional interests as he worked with other tenants and property owners, also serving for many years on several City of University Park committees.

John served the greater Dallas community through Voice of Hope and Preston Center Rotary Club. John was a man of strong Christian faith and service. He was ordained a Deacon at Park Cities Baptist Church and later a Deacon and teacher at Park Cities Presbyterian Church before returning to his "roots" at Highland Park United Methodist Church. John was a living spiritual example to his family, friends, and business associates. His love for Jesus was his guiding light in every aspect of his life.

John's greatest joy and pride was being with his family. He adored his perfect grandchildren, sending them frequent notes of love and encouragement. He loved taking his sons on deer and dove hunts in Cisco and Albany and later helped his grandsons as they shot their first deer. Daddy John loved Grandparents Days at Providence Christian School and countless sporting events. He and Kathy treasured their times at Dallas Country Club with grandchildren at the pool and joining them on the golf course.

Survivors include his loving wife, Kathy, sons, Winn Jackson, wife Brooksie, Paul Jackson, wife Melanie, Grandchildren, Rhodes Jackson, Anderson Jackson, Greer Jackson, Ford Jackson, Rowan Jackson, and Winn Jackson, as well as Charlotte Langand Taylor Lang. Also, Brother Clyde C. Jackson, Jr., sister-in-law Nancy Ashby, husband Ronnie, and beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Goddaughter Lindsey Boston Miller and her family were a special joy.

We are all thankful for his life and will proudly carry on his legacy of service, strength, and integrity.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, April 2, 1:00 pm at Highland Park United Methodist Church with reception following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the HP Education Foundation, 4201 Grassmere 75205, or the charity of your choice.
