John Patrick Korman, better known as “PK”, age 68, passed away on April 14, 2021 at his home in Dallas, Texas surrounded by family. He was born on July 26, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Raymond and Frances Korman. PK was raised on Mission Street in Dallas and attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School as a child and graduated from Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas in 1970. He started his college career at Loyola University New Orleans on a full scholarship and finished up his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Film at Southern Methodist University in 1976. One of PK’s proudest achievements during his college days was directing the short film, “Carhops,” which is periodically shown on KERA and available through the Dallas Public Library System. PK lived the Jesuit motto, “Men for Others” alongside his brother, Mike, by supporting the athletic programs as coaches. PK also loved teaching filmmaking and coaching cross county and track at the school and took great pride in filming the Jesuit football games for 22 years. He instituted the Jesuit Film Festival and was proud when one of his former students won an Academy Award for a documentary. After the birth of his first born, he took on a new career as a computer programmer.
PK loved writing music, singing, playing his guitar, and watching classic movies and westerns. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Camille, exploring Texas and memorializing their travels and love of the Lone Star State through his photography. His kids will always remember groaning at his “dad jokes” and singing with him while he played his guitar.
PK is preceded in death by his father, Raymond and mother, Frances. He is survived by his wife, Camille, brother Mike and wife Nancy of Plano, Texas, son John and wife Whitney of Franklin, Tennessee, daughter Kathleen and husband Don of Fairview, Texas, son Jason of Plano, Texas, daughter Kelsey of Dallas, Texas, grandchildren Emma, Ella, Ethan and Jameson and devoted dog Zuma.
