John Michael McBride, Sr. passed away at age 83 on February 2, 2026. He was born in Dallas to Irene Martinez Garcia and John Hampton McBride. John married Lena Miller McBride in 1959, and they spent 66 wonderful years together.
John spent his entire career working with his family at El Fenix Restaurants and served as President until his retirement in 2008. John was a family man and spent much of his time attending the sporting and school events of his children and grandchildren. We were always assured that “Dad” or “Poppy” would be in the stands.
He enjoyed cane pole fishing at Bachman Lake, playing HORSE in the backyard (while making noises when you were shooting), ping pong in the garage (beating you with quick serves and never-ending spins) and playing slots in Las Vegas. The one thing he was most known for was his happy, hearty “laugh”. If you ever heard it, you never forgot it.
John leaves behind his beloved wife Lena; his son John Michael McBride, Jr. and wife Kim; his daughter, Joann Bautista and husband Rick; his four grandchildren -- Richard Bautista and wife Gina; Michelle Bautista Howard and husband Sean; Ryan Elizabeth McBride; Maddie McBride; his 7 great-grandchildren -- James, Brady, Matty and Drew Howard; and Gigi, Miller and Wells Bautista; and half-sister Ann McBride Frankum. Our family would like to thank Doris Washington and all the caregivers throughout the past few years and a special thank you to Sonia Guerra. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the entire team at Manchester House. He has been well taken care of.
