John was born June 2, 1944, to parents Mr. and Mrs. John D. McMurray Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Ann; his sons John IV and Robert, and Robert’s wife Marea; his grandchildren Christopher, Ryan, Johnny, Langedon, and Ballard; and his sister and brother-in-law Patsy and Bill Bass and their four children.
As a husband, father, friend, and successful businessman, John leaves a lasting and enduring legacy. John was President of McMurray Metals Company, a family business founded by his father, and he cherished the time he spent working side by side with his sons. John also served on the Board of Live Oak State Bank, and he was a member of the Shrine and Scottish Rite and a 32nd Degree Mason.
Over the years, John enjoyed coaching his sons in athletics. He also enjoyed participating in Ducks Unlimited, the Coastal Conservation Association, and the Sunova Beach Rod and Reel Club. An avid sportsman, his passion was fishing on his boat “Top Brass” off the Texas Coast. He also fished in Panama, Mexico, and on the Amazon River for numerous game fish. John loved spending time at the family ranch with his wife, sons, and grandchildren. One of his greatest joys of late was attending his 50th class reunion at St. Marks and reconnecting with many friends. John was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
