

John Dennison McMurray, IV, passed away unexpectedly on June 24, 2018. He was born on July 29, 1964, to John and Ann McMurray, who preceded him in death. John is survived by his sons, Christopher, Ryan, and Johnny, as well as their mother, Kendra; his brother, Robert, sister-in-law Marea and nephews, Ballard and Langedon; his uncle, Mike Geib; his partner, Terri Scannell and her children, Charlotte and Dylan; and his godmother, Sherrie Addington. Raised in Dallas, John was a 1982 graduate of Lake Highlands High School and a member of the 5A State Champion football team. He studied Business at Texas Tech University before returning to Dallas to work for McMurray Metals, which was founded by his grandfather in 1941. A proud and loving father, John raised his family in Frisco, where he coached his sons, and many other young men, in the Frisco Football League. John's passion for sports remained strong throughout his life. He never missed a Cowboys game and was a season ticket holder for the Mavericks, Stars and Rangers. John was also an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved the outdoors. Some of his happiest times were spent in the mountains or fishing with his friends and family on their boat, Top Brass. He delighted in showing his children the National Parks, including the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, which were two of his favorites. John was passionate about preserving nature for future generations. He was very active in the Coastal Conservation Association and was recognized with his brother as the organization's 2018 Sportsmen of the Year. John will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. He will be remembered for his sweet spirit, his fierce loyalty and his famous bear hugs. The memorial service for John will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 29, 2018, at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Ave., Dallas, Texas 75225. A reception will follow.
