

John Robert(Jack) Nabholtz passed away on November 26. Jack was born on January 6, 1931 in Cleveland, Ohio.He left strong and beautiful memories among us all. One of Jack's friends of more than fifty years described Jack as being so full of life that he was like quicksilver.
Jack made a career as an English Professor, and as such he left an indelible impression among countless students who still remember his insights and influence. He was a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago and later received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. He was a Fulbright Scholar in England in 1954 – 55. Starting his teaching career at Cornell University and University of Rochester, he later moved back to Chicago, the city he so loved, to teach at Loyola University.
While in Chicago, Jack was an enthusiastic season subscriber to The Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The visual arts, music, cinema and ballet were equally important to his life.
Upon retirement, he decided to settle down in the city whose atmosphere and lifestyle made him the happiest: Rome, Italy. He enjoyed Roman culture and cuisine to the fullest, in the company of friends he had such a gift to make; but he also travelled constantly, in quest of the latest Vienna opera productions or the most recent shows at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City.
He was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1989, but managed to get it into remission for several years. It resurged in 2003, with colon, liver and bone cancer on the attack as well.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, pro-golfer father Larry, mother Marguerite, and brother, Lawrence.
He is survived by partner MonaYoes of New York, NY and daughter, Amy; aunts Evelyn M Nabholtz andBobbe H. Nabholtz; cousin George J.Nabholtz; second cousinsElizabeth N. Allen and Megan Nabholtz, all of Dallas, TX.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 4th at 10:00am at Sparkman-Hillcrest in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Malachy School, 2252 West Washington Blvd, Chicago, IL 60612.
