John David Newkirk was born the fourteenth day of February on a Valentine’s Day in 1952; he was born to Flossie and Willie Newkirk in Harrells, North Carolina. He attended Bland Elementary and Clear Run High School. John moved to Peekskell, New York and joined in the United States Army. He met and married Ruthie Williams and to that union was born one son, Manu Newkirk.
Before entering in the Army he was employed at the Veterans Hospital in Montrose, New York and he returned after his honorable discharge from the United States Army. After his marriage to Ruth ended, he relocated to Dallas, Texas. He then became employed with the Dallas VA Medical Center until he retired after twenty-five plus years of service.
After relocating to Dallas, John met an old flame, Jackie Davis, and they rekindled their relationship that led to a beautiful union of marriage for over twenty years. He gained three children, Clayton, Telia and Matthew, whom he loved as his own. John held a degree in business along with being a certified photographer and a licensed bartender. He was a self-proclaimed poet, and some of his poems were published in the National Book of Poetry. For his North Carolina and New York family, John was an avid facebook viewer, mainly to see photos and to keep up with his beloved family whom he cherished so much.
On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, John transitioned to his home in Glory. He was welcomed by his parents, Willie and Flossie; four siblings, Elizabeth, Willie, Jr., “Buck,” Willie Nell and Jeanette.
John leaves to forever cherish his Life and Legacy, his loving wife, Jackie Newkirk; children, Manu, Clayton (Rocio), Matthew (Cala) and Telia; godson, David; his cherished grandkids and great-grandkids; siblings, Thelma Newton, Mable Figueroa, Dorothy Gibbs, Saretta Tuck and Luther Newkirk; his beloved niece, Tamara and great-niece, Ta’Lor; and all of his special nieces and nephews and other family and friends. He Loved You All Very Much! He was truly loved and will be greatly missed.
