John Peter Vescovo
October 8, 1932 – January 14, 2013
John Peter Vescovo
Pete was born in Memphis, Tennessee on October 8, 1932 and passed away on January 14, 2013. He was a devoted husband and father leaving behind his adored wife Shelly of 18 years, his precious daughter Victoria Vescovo Webster, her husband Frank, and son Victor Lance Vescovo. He also leaves cherished relatives; his stepson Geoff Simpson, his wife Nikki and three grandchildren Brenden, Austin and Logan of Houston, Texas and his stepdaughter Kimberly Johnson, her husband Clyde Johnson and two grandchildren Bennett and Shelton of San Antonio, Texas.
Pete never missed a school play, athletic event or other activity his children or wife were involved in; they came first above all else in his life. He remained in constant grief for the loss of his other daughter, Valerie Vescovo, M.D., who preceded him in 2002.
Pete spent most of his career in Commercial Real Estate, Finance and Law. Moving from the East, he was Executive Vice President, General Manager of the Vantage Company’s National Division from 1972-1982, when he left to form his own company, J. Peter Vescovo & Associates from 1982-1991, specializing in representing national and international companies for their real estate transactions. He joined the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from 1991-1994 as Senior Credit Officer responsible for dissolving failed bank and S. & L.’s commercial real estate holdings. He became a contractor for the Resolution Trust Corporation from 1994-1996 as Project Manager for financial analysis and ultimate disposition of assets formally owned by failed final institutions. In 1996, he formed his own company again to dispose of major assets owned by the government. From 1999 through 2006 he was Vice President of General Motors Financial Division, underwriting major Commercial Projects for Wall Street firms. He retired in 2006.
Pete’s education consisted of a B.A. degree, J.D., MBA and PhD earned in Southern and California universities.
He was a loyal member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where he was very active in teaching confirmation for 8 years, a Chalice Bearer for 26 years and a fund raiser.
He was an officer in the Military Police Corp., serving two years in La Rachelle, France during the Korean conflict.
He was quite athletic, having been a four letter man in high school in football, basketball, golf and track. Having made all everything in football he was awarded a football scholarship to the University of Tennessee in 1951. He continued his athleticism as a one time scratch golfer and an “A” tennis player. Unfortunately, major back surgery caused an end to both. However, he went on to coach Little League Baseball and Football to a YMCA championship.
Special thanks and honor to Pete’s caregivers, Maria Reynolds and Angela Henderson.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2013. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a contribution to St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Adult Christian Formation, 8011 Douglas Ave., Dallas, Texas 75225.
