

John was a successful business entrepreneur in the intercom and radio business which he sold in his early 40's, enabling him and his wife to travel extensively all over the world. During these travels he began to collect Asian art, specifically from the Meiji period in Japan. In the early 90's his collection was exhibited throughout the world and he donated many significant pieces to the Dallas Museum of Art to help build their Asian wing. John was a proud 32nd degree Mason and a longtime member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings and wife, Frances Hagler. John is survived by his two sons: John R. Young III, his wife Elizabeth and Robert L. Young, his wife Judy; grandchildren; Mary Frances, Marla Janae, Robert Kyle and Henry Medaris; five great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Max, Molly, Preston Allen and Isabella Ruth. Visitation will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home Sunday, December 1, 2013 5:00-7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held Monday, December 2, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Chapel East of Hillcrest Mausoleum.
