

Josephine “Josie” Gonzales Castillo, age 75, passed away surrounded by her devoted family on January 9, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents Jesse Gonzales Sr. and Antonia Gutierrez Gonzales, brother Carlos Gonzales, and grand-pup Munch.
Josie was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from N.R. Crozier Technical High School in 1966. She married Alexander A. Castillo in 1970 and moved to Fort Worth where the couple had four daughters: Delia Irene, Simona, Ava and Julia. Josie was an educator assistant and computer lab specialist at Diamond Hill Elementary School until her retirement from the Fort Worth ISD in 2009. While her children were students, Josie was extremely active in the school’s PTA and held officer roles as treasurer, secretary and contributed to the membership committee. Josie was also active as a volunteer at the Wesley United Community Center where she enhanced her knowledge by attending sewing, quilting and ceramic classes. She also dedicated her time at numerous fundraising events for the center. During her retirement, Josie attended extended education classes at Tarrant County College, caringly watched her grandson, Matthew, and visited friends and family.
Josie enjoyed reading mystery books, gardening, travelling, watching James Bond movies, spending time with family, especially with her grandkids and creating lasting memories with her siblings, daughters, grandchildren and friends.
She will be remembered for her smile, fun-spirited soul, her passion for dancing and for being a huge Elvis Presley fan. Josie will also be remembered for her unconditional love of family and her devotion to her faith and God.
Josie is survived and missed by her loving husband of 52 years, Alexander A. Castillo and their children- Delia Irene and husband Alejandro Arellano; Simona; Ava and husband Daniel Cantu; Julia and husband Paul Villafuerte; Jose Mario Castillo; Patricia Castillo Arredondo. Grandchildren: Isabel and Carolina Cantu; Alexander, Aidan, Matthew Villafuerte; Christopher, Lewis, Jessica Castillo; Richard Jr., Marsha, Ester Arredondo. Fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Siblings and their families which includes in-laws and many nieces and nephews: Jesse Gonzales Jr., Martha Cuello, John Gonzales, Antonio Gonzales, Mary Contreras, Carmen Cavazos, Joe Gonzales, and Rita Martinez.
Funeral mass to be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. John The Apostle Catholic Church, 7341 Glenview Drive, North Richland Hills, Texas 76180. A reception immediately following for family and friends at Eventually Yours Special Event Venue, 7640 NE Loop 820, #110, North Richland Hills, Texas 76180. Attendees are welcome to wear vibrant colored attire.
