Born on September 26, 1943, in Austin, Texas, Joyce was the daughter of Eric and Norma Almquist. She graduated from Austin High School in 1961. While in high school, she met the love of her life, Jimmie Sidell Whited, on a blind date. The two married on September 22, 1962, and shared 58 devoted years together.
In 1965, Joyce and Jimmie settled in Dallas, where she played an essential role in helping Jimmie establish his own business in 1975. Joyce managed the operations with precision and dedication, allowing the business to thrive—she was truly its backbone and steady hand.
In 2000, they moved to Fisher Island, off the coast of Miami Beach, where Joyce discovered and cultivated a deep passion for golf. That passion blossomed into a competitive spirit, and she proudly won the club championship along with several other tournaments.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Scruggs and husband David; her son, Jimmy Eric Whited and wife Rebecca; her beloved grandchildren, Caroline Novak and husband Cole, Davis Scruggs, Eric Whited, and Henry Whited; and her cherished great-granddaughter, Annie Cole Novak.
Joyce, “Mumsey”, will be remembered for her unwavering love, quiet strength, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her family was her greatest pride, and her legacy lives on in the lives she touched. With her kind eyes and dazzling smile, she was always the heart of every gathering.
A private family service will be held in her honor.
