Born January 22, 1929, to Frances and Arturo Cardenas in Dallas, Texas, Julia graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1947. She soon began working for Dallas Power and Light Company as a draftsman and joined the social sorority Beta Sigma Phi.
On February 14th, 1953, Julia married Benny Mahdak at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas. They had two children; Andrew Mahdak and Laura Mahdak.
Julia's hobbies included drawing, painting, hat making, stamp collecting, making jewelry, astrology, reading Tarot cards, numerology, belly dancing and doll making. She was a member of the American Federation of Astrologers, as well as the 'Tailenders' bowling team.
Julia loved watching 1940's 'Gangster' movies with her son in law, Jim, and even adopted the 'Gangster' name of "Sticky Fingers Julia" for fun.
Julia loved animals and had many dogs and cats throughout her life.
Julia is preceded in death by her husband Benny Mahdak, sister Penny De Cardenas, brother Arthur De Cardenas.
Julia will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her and is survived by daughter Laura Mahdak Gosnell and husband Jim Gosnell, son Andrew Mahdak and wife Jonye Mahdak, brother Mark DeCardenas, sister Delores Powell, grand children, Sean Gosnell, Zachary Mahdak and Houston Mahdak, as well as her beloved cats Mickey Mouse and Tweety.
Pallbearers will include: Jim Gosnell, Bob Lehr, Ed Vargas, George Gressett, Dan Denton and David Walker.
Alternate Pallbearers include: Ken Bums, Tom Gregory and Lewin Rodriquez.
