Skyline 2015 

I still.. I still remember and think of her every day. I began choir in 5th grade at Harry Stone.. she trained me.. noticed I was talented, but not in gospel, but opera. She trained me for years, got the highest score on every competition I went to and was high ranked in every honor and all city choir she could have me audition to be in.. She would say “Nkem, you need to handle your business”.. and I did. She would make me so mad sometimes always snitching on me to my parents if I was doing stuff I didn’t have no business doing but I knew she was doing it to keep me on track.. I would practice at her house.. she would drive me to practices, she even followed me to high school! Lol .. how she managed to slip her way to becoming my high school choir teacher at Skyline, I don’t know.. but we kept going. Trained and trained and We made it to Austin.. of course we were the only black folks because this was the “white folks genre” but she told me don’t feel intimidated or feel like I don’t belong..we got plenty of stares but we kept our head high..I remember doing my song.. and we had to wait for results.. well when she got them she looked at me with her eyes watering and I was like oh no I did bad.. nope, y’all I got the highest scoring with one of the hardest songs AS A FRESHMAN. She told me what I got and we criedddd and criedddd because we worked so hard training for this for years.  Well.. the summer of 2015 came.. I was supposed to see her two days after she died.. for summer choir camp.. I couldn’t believe it when I got the call. I tried to keep singing.. I’m so sorry Ms. Scott but I lost my spark, I lost my mentor. My biggest believer and role model.. I lost you.. I was never able to type something until today.. I love you Ms. Scott❤️ You may be gone but you are never forgotten

Ms.Scott was my choir teacher at Skyline High School. She had inspired, taught and encouraged so many students. One of the best choir teacher you could ever have. I am so glad i had the opportunity to study choir under her. God Bless you Ms.Scott. You are being missed and loved by each and everyone of us! Love you Ms.Scott, you will always be in my heart!

Smh I think about you more and more each day...Reality is tearing me up knowing that you're not here anymore..I try to smile thinking about the good times that we had and knowing you in a better place but the thought of it all just hurts...my heart is still heavy and I have not been myself since you left..Thank you for everything you've done for me and my cousins and also for being a mother figure to us...my god this is a hard pill for me to swallow..but I thank god for putting u in my life...love you always my angel in heaven!!!

I was shocked today to just hear about Kalva's passing earlier this month. What a major loss of such a wonderful person. The Scott family were our neighbors for 10 years and Kalva used to babysit my daughter. My heart is heavy with the loss of such a sweet, gifted  young lady. Well at least she is with Sue her mother that she dearly loved. What a loss to the children and humanity in general. Peaceful rest Kalva in the arms of Jesus. Your sweet spirit will truly be missed.

I feel like a piece of my heart is missing! I went to both of your services and I still can't believe you are gone. I'm going to miss you spending time with me and my cousins. You cooking for us when we came over. You playing songs for us that we used to sing when you used to play at Shiloh. I'm going to especially miss you calling me asking me to come brush your hair...Rest easy pretty eyes song bird...I love you always!!!

Another David W. Carter High Cowboy (Class of 90)gone too early but not forgotten. I too, had the opportunity to work with Kalva Sue in Dallas ISD for over 18 years and knew her very well growing up in the same neighborhood. A tremendous loss for the music and education world. This has been a difficult challenge for me to accept the passing of a lovely young educator, who was loved and respected by so many who knew her... I personally had the wonderful opportunity to work w/ Kalva Scott last year at Skyline High School as accompanist for her choir and for many of her soloists. She was so loved by the students and cared so much for them all. She treated them with respect and gave sound life skills to them, as well as providing them with strong choral music skills, as well. Such a talented woman will be remembered and greatly missed by the choral director/church choir director community.

I'm still in shock over Kalva's passing. Such a beautiful spirit and a beautiful voice. Meeting you at UNT was a blessing and I'll cherish our friendship. Heaven has a true angelic voice in the Heavenly choir.

I met Kalva Sue after my husband Michael died a few years back through David her cousin my brother-in law and the times that we spent together she made me laugh so much that I didn't have time to cry for just a little while.She had a BEAUTIFUL spirit .I Believe the HEAVENLY CHOIR just got a little bit better.My Condolences to the family. I have know Kalva for over 20 years. The beautiful, talented, shy awesome singer and musician. Her gifts were excellent and she used them for the glory and honor of God. She taught her students to be the best, to be confident and to be sincere. I remember when my vocal group needed a soprano, we called her and she was there, not questions asked. Kalva you transition as been a hard pill to swallow; especially since we were together two weeks prior to your demise. I am thankful to have had you as apart of my life. I am thankful for the talks, the tears, and the music. I am thankful for your smile, your dedication and your character. You were one of a kind. I am thankful that I was able to tell you these things while you could hear them. Therefore, I am at peace knowing you are at peace. Rest Easy Sweetie... Kalva was more than a teaching colleague, she was a special friend and my neighbor for over 20 years. I succeeded her Mom as the music teacher a WH High school when she retired and Kalva succeeded me at Ronald McNair when I moved to a DISD Learning Center. We often spoke of that NOT being  coincidental! I remember the many times she would honk when passing my house!She was on of God's true song birds and a gifted choral director with a special touch for training and grooming young singers! SHE WILL SINCERELY BE MISSED! R.I.P. My Dear Friend.

My two youngest children attended Harry Stone while Ms. Scott was the music/choir teacher. She was always so encouraging and uplifting to her students. My children thoroughly enjoyed her teaching and directing them. I send my most heartfelt condolences to her family during this time of bereavement. God bless you, Ms. Scott.

I'm so grateful to have had the opportunity to know Ms. Scott and become her friend.  She was an awesome ray of sunshine to the Harry Stone students, parents, and staff. Sandy Lake will never be viewed the same; rest well my friend.  I know she will be playing and singing in that Heavenly choir!!

Ms. Scott was the best teacher I've ever had and one of the most down to earth, loving and motivating educators in DISD. She was my music teacher and choir director at Harry Stone Montessori Academy and she helped myself and many of my fellow classmates embrace our love for the arts and served as a mother figure in many ways. She cared for us, helped many of us mature for high school, gave us an outlet to be creative and express ourselves without being ashamed. Choir was a lot more than just singing, at least for me, it was a family and a support team that always fought but loved eachother in the end. The person that I am today and the things I've achieved are all by means of the support and love of Ms. Scott and she will truly be missed. Gone too soon

It was a shock to me when I heard of Kalva's untimely passing .  She will always be remembered at  Highland Hills UMC as a sweet and loving person.  My sincere condolence to the family.  I know you all loved her but God loved her best.

I am in total disbelief. Kalva and I became very close during the time her mother was ill. After Mrs. Scott's passing, Kalva became part of our family. She and I were very close. She was a sweet, humble, and loving young Christian woman I truly loved. I considered her my baby sister. My heart has been truly broken! I am praying for the family and especially her brother, Cedric. My mother and I will not be able to attend the funeral because the pain of losing Kalva is too much to bear.

Ms. Scott saw talent in my daughter that I didn't know existed.  She knew how the bring the best out of everyone she met.  I will be missed.  Her work on this side is done.

I was at a loss for words after hearing of Kalva's demise.  We spoke about two weeks ago.  I remember her as a beautiful Christian woman. Remember Isaiah 35:10, "Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal."  I will keep your family in prayer.
