God bless. May this angel shine her light for the two who have such a large part of her heart. My deepest sympathy.

This is one of my favorite memories of my niece.

Kate must have been about 13 when her mom and Eric (my brother) hosted a 50th wedding anniversary party for our parents. The men in our family are known for their prominent ears, which stick out from their heads and cause quite a bit of teasing.

Eric, our dad, and his younger brother were standing side-by-side in front of some windows when Kate came into the room, took one look, and collapsed in laughter on the floor, squealing "The ears! The ears!" As I recall, her mirth set my mother, Rae, and me laughing helplessly as well.
