Kathleen grew up in Dallas and graduated from Bryan Adams High School. She spent 2 years at USC. During a summer break from USC she met Dennis “Skeet” Platt. Meeting Skeet induced a short bout of homesickness (exacerbated by the Watt’s Riots in Los Angeles), so she returned to finish her Bachelor’s degree from SMU, completed in 1968. Shortly after getting married, Skeet and Kathleen moved to Wichita, Kansas, so that Skeet could finish his degree from Wichita State University.
After Skeet’s degree was completed, they moved to Jupiter, Florida, where she gave birth to their only child, Jeffrey. As soon as there was work available, the family moved back to Dallas, where they eventually found their Forever Home. Kathleen began part-time as a graduate student after Jeff was old enough to amuse himself. She finished her Master’s degree in Computer Science from UTD and subsequently went to work for a company named ElectroSpace, Incorporated in Richardson, TX. During her time there, she survived two separate corporate takeovers, first from E-Systems, then again from Raytheon. She ultimately retired from Raytheon.
Kathleen very much enjoyed volunteering with Jonathon’s Place and as a tutor at Wallace Elementary. She loved kids. When her two grandchildren (Allie and Carter) finally arrived she was ecstatic. She will be missed every day.
Survivors include son, Jeffrey Platt, and daughter-in-law, Sandra; 2 grandchildren, Alexandra and Carter; sister Barbara Stoudamire, and brother Bruce Hawkins.
A Memorial Service will be at 12:00 Noon on Monday, January 14, 2019, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Northwest Chapel, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy., Dallas, TX, 75225. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scofield Christian School of Dallas, 7730 Abrams Road, Dallas Texas, 75231.
