

Kathryn Jean Tidwell was born on December 9, 1955, at Travis Air Force Base in California. Kathryn was the second daughter of John Evan Tidwell, Sr. and Mary Howard Tidwell. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Robert Howard Tidwell; and her sister, Margaret Lynn Tidwell McIntosh.
Kathryn, known to many as Kathy, was a devoted daughter, a loving sister, and a loyal friend. She is survived by her older sister, Deborah Tidwell Salazar and her husband, Edward Salazar; her younger brother, John Evan Tidwell, Jr., and his wife Margarita Pena Tidwell; her nephew, Matthew Markus McIntosh and his wife Hetal McIntosh; and many extended family members and loved ones.
Kathy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in North Dallas in 1974. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of Dallas in Irving in 1978 and later attended the SMU Dedman School of Law. Following her education, she established a successful and respected family law practice throughout North Central Texas. She particularly made her mark in Irving, where she worked with a variety of firms and served as President of the Irving Bar Association. Kathy was known as an effective, thoughtful, and compassionate attorney who consistently advocated for the best interests of her clients.
Outside of her professional life, Kathy had a deep love for music and enjoyed a wide range of television and films. She was a woman of strong faith and maintained close friendships throughout her life including Laura Vela.
Kathy faced significant health challenges in her later years, and she passed away due to complications associated with cancer and COPD. Her strength and resilience during this time reflected the same determination she carried throughout her life.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Kathy’s friends and caregivers for their compassion, dedication, and support during her illness. Their kindness and care brought comfort to Kathy and her loved ones and will always be deeply appreciated.
A memorial Mass will be scheduled at a later date, with a celebration of life to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Kathy’s memory.
Kathryn Jean Tidwell will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her steadfast faith, her professional integrity, and the lasting impact she made on those who knew her.
