Kenneth Smith

Kenneth Smith, (January 11, 1956 - February 19, 2026) whose career began after graduating from Penn State University in 1979 with a degree in Architectural Engineering (MEP). He was recruited immediately out of college by Blum Consulting Engineers, Dallas, Texas. Ken's internship there led him to President during his 45+ year career. He was Principal Emeritus at the time of his death. Ken had an integral part in changing the skylines of Austin, Dallas, Nashville, San Antonio and multiple other cities across the US, as well as countless projects in other countries.

Ken cherished his wife of 20 years, Viki Carnation Smith, of Laguna Niguel, California. During his design of the Montage in Laguna Beach, Ken's dream was for him and Viki to retire there, which he made happen in 2021. Another special part of Ken's life was his son, Michael McKenzie Smith and granddaughter, Tansy Smith of Carrollton, Texas.

Ken is survived by his siblings, Debbie Livingston (Chuck) of Littleton, CO, and Greg Smith (Mary) of Katy, Texas. As well as his brother-in-law, Alan Carnation (Joy) of Hughes Springs, TX, and sisters-in-law, Jeanine Carnation, of Tyler, TX, Diane McKenzie, of Emerald Isle, NC, and Fran Reinheimer, of Lindale, TX. Ken is also survived by eight nieces and two nephews. Ken had a shadow that followed him around and always sat next to him in his favorite chair during conference calls, football games, and by the fire pit. She's a 4.5 Ib Yorkie named Bella, she misses him dearly.

Ken was preceded in death by his former wife, Karen McKenzie Smith, parents, Edmund and Elizabeth Smith, brother-in-law, Gene Carnation, and mother-in-law, Lyda McNully Carnation Reinheimer.

No one had a sense of humor like Ken, as it was unmatched by all. He loved anything sports related, especially his Penn State Nittany Lions, the Pittsburg Steelers, and the Dallas Cowboys. All of his friends recognized Ken drinking his vodka-tonic in a large plastic big gulp cup and enjoying the fire pit nightly while listening to 70's music. Ken and Viki enjoyed doing life together and making many beautiful memories.

As a long time American Airlines Concierge Key member, American Airlines recognized Ken and Viki on their final flight together to his final resting place from John Wayne Orange County Airport to DFW Airport. Ken was laid to rest in Sparkman-Hillcrest Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas. Ken's final words to Viki were, "Dear, I'm leaving one bright light, going to another."
