Larry Allan Jones

He leaves a big circle of friends and relatives who will always cherish his kind, quirky, stubborn, and loyal nature.

Larry was born in Dallas in 1954 to Betty and Lyndal Jones. As a child, he enjoyed Boy Scouts, church youth group, and working in his grandfather’s print shop. He played trombone and then drums in the Bryan Adams High School marching band, where he made lifelong friends and performed at Dallas Cowboys halftime shows and the Sugar Bowl Parade.

After graduation, he became a proud United States Marine in 1973. He wanted to become a pilot and pursued training in avionics, which took him to Tennessee, Georgia, and Southern California. He served as an air traffic control communications technician at the Marine Corps Air Station El Toro. He later returned to Texas where he became a semiconductor engineer for innovative companies like Mostek and Texas Instruments. In 1987, he joined friends and made many more at Dallas Semiconductor (Maxim) where he served as a leading product and test engineer for 27 years.

Larry was a dedicated family man, the oldest of four siblings (Ron, Sandra, and Bryan), and a devoted father and stepfather. He had a daughter from his first marriage (Nicole) and a beloved stepson from his second (Erik).

He loved the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR, and rock and roll. He collected ticket stubs from races and concerts, including favorites like Black Sabbath, Jethro Tull, Kiss, Yes, and ZZ Top. A lifelong tinkerer, he took pride in hard work, precise measurements, meticulous lawncare, home repairs, and showing up for people he cared about.

Larry is survived by his children, Nicole Fenton and Erik Kennedy, granddaughter Eva Fenton, brothers Ron and Bryan Jones, sister Sandra Johnson, niece and nephews, cousins Linda and Bob Sheldon, and many dear friends.

Memorial services will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with a celebration of life to follow. Details will be announced soon.
