

Symns, Larry Don was born in Dallas, Texas on June 22, 1942, to Philip and Thelma Symns. He passed away November 6, 2015 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Larry graduated from Samuel High School and went on to attend the University of North Texas (formerly North Texas State College) receiving his bachelor’s degree in business in 1964. Immediately following college, he joined the army in active duty for one year and served in the national guard for 6 years. His career spanned many years at Southern Union Gas Company and Lincoln Property Company.
He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church: Lagow Church, Meneely Memorial Presbyterian Church and Eastminster Presbyterian where he served as an elder. He was a faithful and active member of his church congregation. He enjoyed serving at the church's Saturday community breakfast, visiting with home bound members, volunteering at the Pleasant Grove Food Pantry and The Bridge as well as helping wherever he was needed.
Larry loved his years spent residing in the neighborhoods of Lakewood, Oak Lawn and Turtle Creek where he was always in search of his next favorite sports car, home or good bite to eat. Larry also loved traveling and enjoyed many trips and cruises. In recent years, he split his time between Dallas and Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He will be remembered for his kind, warm and loving spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Christine Symns (Harris) and Philip William Symns; brother, Phil Symns. He is survived by sister, Philis Knox and her husband Charles (Dick) Knox, of Heath, Texas; brother, Jerry Symns and his wife, Linda Symns, of Canton, Texas. He will also be greatly missed by nieces, Dana McConnell, Terri Tygart, Deanna Cloud, Jessica Young, Elizabeth Kelleher; nephews, Grant Symns, Chris Knox, their spouses and many great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many dear cousins and a host of wonderful friends including Donna Hadley, Carlos Moran, Steve Hickman, Robert Hall and Jimi Blandi.
Visitation will be at Grove Hill Funeral Home, Thursday, November 12 from 6-8pm. Graveside Services at Grove Hill Memorial Park at 11am Friday, November 13. Memorial Service will be held at Eastminster Presbyterian Church on Friday at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church (eastminsterdallas.org), Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services (texas.pchas.org) or a charity of your choice.
