LaVerne Bolen, 91, passed away peacefully at her home in Fulshear, Texas, on March 25, 2026, following a brief illness. Born July 11, 1934, in Dallas, she was the youngest of five children born to Sam and Ella Hanks.
A 1951 graduate of W.H. Adamson High School, LaVerne attended Baylor University, where she met the love of her life, R.H. “Bob” Bolen. She graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and completed the requirements to become a registered nurse.
LaVerne’s career was defined by her devotion to school nursing. Following her graduation, she served as a nurse in the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) for approximately 30 years. While she cared for students at several campuses throughout the district, she spent the majority of those years at Justin F. Kimball High School and David W. Carter High School. Following a brief retirement, she continued her service at DeSoto High School for an additional nine years. Even after her second retirement, her passion for caring for others continued as she frequently volunteered in the clinic at Dallas Baptist University.
A woman of deep and gentle care, LaVerne had a special, lifelong love for babies and small children. This gift was evident from her youth, as she helped care for her many nieces and nephews, and it remained a source of great joy throughout her life.
She was preceded in death in 2014 by her beloved husband, Bob.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her three children: Sam Bolen, David Bolen and his wife Carol, and Susan Bolgiano and her husband Randy. She was the cherished “MeMe” to six grandchildren: Samantha Menendez and her husband Darren, Allie Bolen, Lauren Donahoo and her husband Ben, Kristen Bolen and her fiancé Cam Makowski, Charlie Ager, and Jake Bolgiano; and two great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Thomas and her husband Ethan, and Ella Menendez.
A lifelong member of Cliff Temple Baptist Church, LaVerne’s faith guided and sustained her. She was a devoted mother, a caring nurse, and a woman of deep faith. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered for the lives she touched.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on April 11, 2026, at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cliff Temple Baptist Church in Dallas.
