HAWKINS, Lawrence Brooks Lawrence Brooks Hawkins, 71, devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away April 26, 2020, in Dallas, at home surrounded by his family, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Larry was born September 15, 1948, in Berlin, Germany, to Phillips and Dorothy Hawkins, while his father served as the joint head of the Economics Division of Military Government during the reconstruction of post war Germany. Raised in Pittsburgh, PA, where he attended Mt. Lebanon High School, Larry went on to earn a BA in Economics from Trinity College in Hartford, CT and an MBA from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. He started his career in investment management right out of graduate school working for Mellon Bank, before accepting a position with Valley National Bank in Arizona, and subsequently, accepting a senior position with M Bank in Dallas. He went on to serve as President of Investor's Trust, guiding the company through a successful acquisition. Throughout his life, Larry was always eager to offer his gifts in service to others, and as a skilled salesman and negotiator was often given the job of raising funds. He served on the annual fund committee for his children's schools, Hockaday and St. Marks, and served as co-chair with his wife Kris of the St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church Stewardship Committee. In addition, he served as treasurer for the Sequoia Foundation for disabled adults; and Vice Chairman of Ronald McDonald House of Dallas, where his efforts were recognized by President George W. Bush as part of the national, USA Freedom Corps. Larry is survived by his wife of 51 years, Kris; son Erick and wife Hilary; daughter Lindsey Ambrose and husband Connor; and joys of his life grandchildren, Alton and Ellie Ambrose, who affectionately called him "Botchi". Larry was an avid reader and well known for his quick wit and ability to deliver a spot-on pun no matter the situation. He was generous in every respect and brought joy not only to his family and friends, but business associates, fellow committee members, and anyone who had the good fortune to spend time with him. He was a darn good sport and always the first to laugh at himself; and if it brought his grandchildren joy, he was not afraid to wear an embarrassing costume or let himself be covered in paint in celebration of his birthday. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but most especially his wife, Kris. A family service has been held privately at Saint Michaels and All Angels. The family asks, that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: Ronald McDonald House of Dallas The Foundation of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, Dallas, TX.
