devoted wife and mother, loyal friend and co-worker.
Forty-six years ago, there was anticipation in the air as Joe and Brenda Skinner prepared for the arrival of the new baby. To quickly communicate to the neighbors, a flagpole with two flags, one pink and one blue, was flown in the front yard of our Oklahoma City home. The remaining color would designate whether we were celebrating the arrival of a boy or a girl. When both the pink and blue flags continued flying, it was assumed the delivery was delayed. To everyone’s surprise, our family was blessed with both a baby boy and a baby girl, quickly referred to as “The Twins.”
In 1974, ultrasound technology did not exist, so Brenda was only expecting one baby. Through a child’s intuition, we sisters told her there would be two babies (one for each) and we were right. From the time she was born, Leigh Ann was known as Mom and Dad’s special surprise.
The Twins were inseparable. They spoke their own twin language and played their own twin games that only they two could understand. They were joyful, playful and adorable.
As a child, Leigh Ann’s platinum blonde hair shone like a halo; her cerulean blue eyes and apple cheeks made her look like a tiny cherub. She was our little angel. She lit up a room with radiant light.
