Lena Brandt Naboshek passed away on Thursday, June 7th in Dallas at the age of 95. She was born on January 22, 1923 in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of Harry and Sarah Brandt, who had recently immigrated to the United States from Hungary.
She met her husband, Joel Naboshek (a Brooklyn boy), in 1941 in Shreveport, where he was stationed at Barksdale Field (AFB). He was later transferred to Maxwell Field (AFB) in Montgomery, Alabama, and it was there that they got married on March 16, 1944. They eventually moved to New York where they lived for a few years before returning to Shreveport to raise a family. After living in Longview, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma, they moved with their two sons Hal and Mark to Dallas, Texas in March 1958, and, in July 1961, a few miles north to Richardson where she would live for the next 50 years.
Lena was a stay-at-home mother until her boys were old enough to take care of themselves. At that point, she spent the next 25 years working in the women’s retail business. She was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Dallas for nearly 60 years and, as a senior, was active at the Jewish Community Center of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Joel Naboshek, her parents Harry and Sarah Brandt, her sister Bella Brandt Levy and her brother Sam Brandt. She is survived by her devoted children, Hal and his wife Kim, and Mark and his wife Beverly, all of Dallas; her grandchildren Matt Naboshek and his wife Gina of Beverly, Massachusetts, Justin Naboshek and his wife Heather of Sterling, Virginia, Stephanie Mayes and her husband Jeremy of Carrollton, Texas, and Ryan Naboshek and his wife Heather of Peoria, Arizona; great-granddaughters Camille Naboshek and Aubrey Lena Naboshek (Matt and Gina’s daughters); her brother Harvey Brandt of DeBary, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
An interment service was held on Sunday, June 10th at Sparkman-Hillcrest in Dallas. It was a wonderful service in which Rabbi Daniel Utley of Temple Emanu-El spoke of Lena’s immense love of her family as well as of her family’s great love for her. Lena was a beautiful, caring, loving, generous and supportive woman who will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
