

Lenwood Woodson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on April 30, 1946, in Zavalla, Texas, to the proud parents Eugene Woodson and Idellar Benefield. On the evening of November 4, 2025, Lenwood peacefully transitioned from this life after a gradual decline in health. He was lovingly surrounded by his family during his final days.
Lenwood earned his GED before being drafted into the United States Army, where he served his country with honor and distinction. His military career took him to many parts of the world, including a tour in Vietnam, where his bravery and dedication earned him numerous commendations. Among his many honors were the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal with Device (V), Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal – Sharpshooter (Rifle M-14), Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Two Overseas Bars, and 1st Class Gunner (Machine Gun M-60) Marksman. Lenwood’s courage and commitment to his country were unwavering. He was a true patriot and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Following his distinguished military service, Lenwood continued to serve his country as a Professional Over-the-Road (OTR) Truck Driver, a career he proudly held until his retirement in 2013. Known for his professionalism, skill behind the wheel, and kindness toward others, he left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with.
In his leisure time, Lenwood enjoyed watching his favorite television shows, including In the Heat of the Night and classic westerns such as Bad Day at Black Rock.
Lenwood was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Woodson and Idellar Benefield; his children, Patrick Prejean and Valeria Woodson; brothers, Nelson Woodson and Guss Woodson; and sisters, Lila Edwards, Annie Mae Turner, and Clara Furgins.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 45 years, Eva J. Hampton-Woodson; seven children, Christina L. Woodson, Tondra Woodson, Tawanda Chappell, Jerome Silverbird, Gregory E. Hampton, Stacy L. Hampton, and Chavela M. Hampton; two sisters, Linda Adof and Hazel Woodson; twenty grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Lenwood’s life was one of courage, love, service, and faith. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
