Leon married Leona Warner, opened a paint store in NY and, shortly thereafter had two sons, David and Stuart. In 1961, he moved the family to Dallas, where he settled into a long career as a lighting manufacturer's rep. After retiring, Leon volunteered at Golden Acres, became a tutor at Kramer Elementary and enjoyed extensive travels with Leona. He loved all sports, especially NY Giants baseball, Las Vegas, Frank Sinatra and kibbutzing with friends and strangers alike at the Jewish Community Center.
Most important to Leon was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Leona; sons David (Sandra) Veeder and Stuart Veeder; granddaughters Katherine (Michael) Hutshneker and Stephanie (Eric) Newmark; great-grandchildren Preston, Sari and Charlie; niece Debbie (Robert) Clevenstine and sister Linda (Lloyd) Smith.
The family would like to thank countless healthcare workers, especially his "buddy" Robert Hart, and the wonderful caregivers at Faith Presbyterian Hospice. Contributions in memory of Leon can be made to the Veeder scholarship fund at Akiba Yavneh Academy or Jewish Family Service.
