

Leonard E. Bryans, 96, of Dallas, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, and was reunited with his beloved wife, Jo Parker Bryans, of more than 60 years. Leonard was born in Garden City, Texas on March 5, 1927 to J.C. and Iva Lee Bryans. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1944 and enlisted in the navy, serving during WWII where he was stationed at the Naval Base in San Diego, California. Following the Navy, he attended Texas Tech University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. After graduation, he went to work for Superior Oil Company in Midland, Texas, where he met Jo while she was working between semesters at college. They were married in August of 1953 and, shortly thereafter, moved to Abernathy, Texas, where they lived until Leonard was transferred to Dallas in 1956 with Humphrey Oil Properties, Ltd. In 1973, he started his own oil and gas company where he worked the remainder of his career.
Jo and Leonard were longtime members of University Park United Methodist Church and the Wedding Ring Sunday School Class. Leonard was involved in the Dallas Geological and Geophysical Society, The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and, in 1986, was honored as a Distinguished Alumni of Texas Tech University. Leonard led by example. He will be remembered for his abiding faith, love of family, strong work ethic, integrity, generosity, endearing smile, witty sense of humor and so much more that made him special and uniquely Leonard.
Leonard was preceded in death by his loving wife, parents, and siblings, Edward Bryans, Boyd Bryans, and Myrl Fitzhugh.
He is survived by his children, Julie Brown and Mark Bryans; Grandchildren, Alex Brown, Nicole (Nikki) Brown, Lauren Bufkin and husband Thomas, Lindsay Gray, Emily Hendricks and husband Michael, Jake Bryans and Jo Anna Bryans; Great grandchildren, Trip, Maggie, Lucy, and Gray; sister, Bonnell Newland - who will be 101 on February 17th, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 2nd from 6 to 8 pm at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy. Dallas, Texas 75225.
A memorial service to celebrate Leonard’s life will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00 pm at University Park United Methodist Church located at 4024 Caruth Boulevard, Dallas Texas 75225.
A reception will be held at the church following the service.
