Lewis Reyers Thompson, Jr. M.D. passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 28th. Jim or Doc, as he was known to family and friends, was born on October 6, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Lewis Ryers Thompson, Sr. and Mabel Cook Thompson. Jim grew up in Maryland choosing to attend college at the nearby Georgetown University. While there, Jim met his future wife, Rose Ann Gorman. They married in 1951 after the completion of his first year of medical school at USC. Jim became a commissioned officer with the United States Public Health
Service in 1955. While his medical training in Orthopedics unfolded, they crisscrossed the U.S. - LA to DC to San Francisco to New Orleans. During this time, they welcomed the births of their seven children. They settled in Dallas in 1967 when Jim joined an orthopedic group. Jim went on to open his own practice, White Rock Orthopedics, in 1978 where he practiced until his retirement in 1990. Jim served as a consultant/team physician for a couple of area programs including Tarleton State and his children's school, Bishop Lynch High School. Jim and Rose Ann became active members of their church, St. Patrick's in Dallas. Jim's commitment to the parish was honored by his induction into the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre. Jim was an avid sports fan, enjoying both his children's sporting events and his team, the Dallas Cowboys. Jim stayed engaged in life until the end and was always up on current events. Never did a day pass that he did not read the newspaper from cover to cover. Jim, Dad to his children, Grandpa to his grandchildren was such a steadying presence.
