Linda (Beyer) Steelman passed from this life on October 19, 2022, in Dallas, Texas, after a prolonged illness which she confronted with grace, dignity and courage, which she embodied throughout her lifetime.
She was born in Pampa, Texas, on May 23, 1944, to Lieutenant Herbert Byer and Cleo (Sumner) Beyer. Linda was the eldest of three children born to this union.
She spent her formative years in Royersford, Pennsylvania, growing up on 16 acres of farmland in a Civil War Era farmhouse. Linda graduated from high school in 1962, where she was a popular student and member of the Varsity Field Hockey Team.
After graduation, she went on to obtain a Nursing Degree from what is now Drexel University in Philadelphia, where she met and later married Dr. Rush Barrett Steelman in 1965. Dr. Steelman established his medical practice in Dallas. Linda served as the anchor of the family during her husband's long years of practice and occupied herself with every aspect of her children's lives. She served as a Board Member for the Episcopal School of Dallas from 1990-1996, established Grandparents Visitation Day at the school and participated in marketing events for Episcopal. She also was instrumental in the establishment of the Shelton School of Dallas, where she served on the Executive Board from 1985-1993.
She earned a real estate license in the early 1990's, soon becoming successful and well known in the Dallas and Tarrant County real estate community, winning awards and managing real estate offices in Dallas and Southlake, Texas. She progressed in the real estate industry beginning as a clerk at a title company, evolving to agent, Assistant Manager, Manager and Vice President. Her last posting of some 14 years was as Vice President of Berkshire Hathaway Penfed.
Linda married Jim Mills in 2006. She loved traveling, cooking, gardening (she was well known for her Pennsylvania Moon Flowers) and spending time in Denver and Houston visiting her children and grandchildren.
Her greatest love was her family and friends. She was an outgoing, energetic person, who was kind, gracious and charming in every way.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother. Linda is survived by her husband, Jim Mills; brother, Kurt Beyer; sister, Judy Kurz; daughter, Tracy Steelman Plummer; sons, Adam and Barry Steelman, Jr.; stepdaughter, Catherine Miller; granddaughters, Olivia and Elizabeth Steelman; and grandsons, Barrett and Bowen Steelman.
