The son of Jerrie Jo and Lionel Joseph Kertz, Jr., Trey was born in Dallas, TX on August 10, 1989 and passed away peacefully at home in Allen, TX on February 10, 2013 after a courageous 3-year battle with cancer. Trey was an honor graduate of Ronald Reagan High School in San Antonio, Texas where he was a Varsity Trainer. Trey attended Oklahoma State University (OSU) where he was a BSBA Accounting candidate and was an alumni and former officer of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Trey was a bright, courageous and caring young man that loved his family, his dog, and OSU, celebrated life and rejoiced in his many friends. He was a focused organizer and leader who approached life as an opportunity and gift to experience and to develop more knowledge, compassion, tolerance, love, trust and faith. He fully embraced Greek Life at OSU and thrived as a cast member, executive steering member and/or director for Freshman Follies, Varsity Review and Spring Sing. In his last few months he showed us all how to live life to the fullest every day and to experience what the world has to offer as he traveled to Mexico, Dubai, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Mauritius. He has left us all too soon, but we take comfort in the realization that Trey's Catholic Faith was secure and strong as he begins his journey to join our Holy Father. Trey's beautiful mind, memory, courage and spirit will be with us always.
Trey is survived by his parents, Lionel and Jerrie, his brother, Kyle Kertz of Allen, TX, his paternal grandfather, Command Sargent Major (Ret) Lionel J. Kertz, Sr. of La Place, LA, his maternal grandmother Glenda Jenson of Plano, TX, his maternal great-grandmother Alice Mitchell of Milbank, SD, and loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial services will be Friday, February 15, 2013 at Noon at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas. TX 75225. Visitation will be Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.sparkman-hillcrest.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trey Kertz Scholarship for Cancer Survivors at Oklahoma State University.
