Betts, Logan Michael, son, brother, and friend to all, exemplified a life of “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven” - Matthew 5:16. Logan Michael Betts, August 6, 2006 - April 5, 2023, was a light in the world that will forever be missed. He was kind to everyone and honored God by giving selflessly to his family, friends, and community. As an active member of the ESD crew team and a longtime member of Dallas United Crew, he was infamously known as the team member with the most positive and yet competitive spirit. He took the responsibility of being a member of the team very seriously and was committed to giving his best every day. His commitment resulted in a US Rowing Regional Champion and Top “10” finisher in the nation.
His mother, Gina, instilled in Logan the importance of giving back to the community through her own actions and together they were very active in numerous charity organizations throughout Dallas. His father, Ken, was also his mentor, friend, and biggest fan. He encouraged Logan to excel in whatever endeavor he took on. Logan admired and loved his older brother Jack who was both an inspiration and role model.
Logan’s diverse passions not only exposed him, but those around him, to the depth of the world. He was an athlete who loved both Crew and Football. Logan was also an accomplished photographer whose work is displayed throughout the community. Just as he loved to live life, he loved to capture life while it was happening. The day of his passing, he had the opportunity to do the things that mattered most to him, practicing rowing with his team, working with his friends volunteering with youth, and capturing the day through photography. He finished the day spending time with his family and pets. Logan had volunteered at Family Gateway since the age of eight, volunteering in special events and quietly coming in on Sundays to work in the kitchen to help prepare the food for others, and most recently, as the photographer for their special events. Logan often said, “Helping others makes me happy and complete.”
Our community has lost a kind soul that will forever remain in our hearts. To quote his peers, “He made me want to be a better person,” and “Logan saw the good in me when sometimes I couldn’t see it in myself.” Always one to encourage and never one to anger, the world needs more people like Logan.
Logan is survived by his mother Gina, father Ken, and older brother Jack.
Logan would want his life to represent many things, but mostly he would want us all to know, “We are all special and we should treat each other with the grace and love that God has given us, and most of all, leave this world a better place than when we came into it.” Logan, you did just that and will forever be missed and loved.
A Celebration of Life service will be Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 6:30p.m. in the chapel at Episcopal School of Dallas, 4100 Merrell Rd., Dallas, TX 75229.
The family asks that any memorials or donations be made to Family Gateway or the S.M. Wright Foundation.
