Lois S. Schermerhorn

Lois Schilke Schermerhorn was born January 21, 1926 in Englewood, NJ and passed away peacefully in Dallas, TX on January 25, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Dr. John (Jack) Schermerhorn. She is survived and loved by her children: Susan Schermerhorn, San Francisco, CA; Nancy and John Shepard, Chelmsford, MA; John and Kathy Schermerhorn, Belhaven, NC; and Jim and Anne Schermerhorn, Dallas, TX. She was so proud of her grandchildren and sweet great-granddaughter: Stacey Shepard, Waltham, MA; Dianna and Glenn Barnett and Caroline Mae, Needham, MA; Katie and Patrick O’Brien, Austin, TX; and Elliott Schermerhorn, Dallas, TX. Lois is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law. The family thanks her compassionate caregivers who provided great comfort and care. After moving to Dallas in 1971, she was a fixture in community clubs and committees, including North Dallas Women’s Club, Parkland Hospital, Collectors Club, CC Young and the Juliets. She attended Needham Congregational Church and, in Dallas, Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Southwestern Medical Foundation, John W. Schermerhorn Scholarship Fund; Walnut Hill UMC Foundation, Altar Guild; or CC Young Endowment Fund, Music Ministry. Inurnment 2:30 pm Friday, February 22, 2013 at Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas. The Memorial Service is scheduled for 10:00 am, Saturday, February 23, 2013 at C.C. Young Nursing Home Chapel with Dr. Don Benton and Rev. Jan Sulivan officiating.
