Loretta Ferris Massad, loving wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2023, at the grand age of 92.
Loretta was born in Wichita, Kansas to parents Adebie and Charles Ferris. She was one of four children raised in a loving Christian home. From Wichita, the family moved to Oklahoma City where she attended Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic School and Classen High School. She loved working in her father’s movie theatre where she developed a passion for the movies, popcorn and candy, all three of which she enjoyed her whole life, especially the candy!
Loretta married Eugene M. Massad, M.D. in 1955 and they moved to Dallas, Texas to begin their life together. She devoted herself to her family and friends. Everyone loved her cooking, especially her fudge recipe which to her delight won first place in a church contest! She enjoyed singing in the church choir on Sunday’s, which brought back fond memories of her father singing in the church when she was a child. Gathering her family for annual Disney World trips was a highlight. She rode the roller coasters with everyone else, which always did a number on her Dallas Hair!
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; parents, Adebie and Charles; and sister, Clara Laham. Loretta is survived by her son, Gene and wife, Barbara, their son, Eugene; son, Mark and his son, Ryan, wife, Anne, and great-grandson, Jake Ryan, great-granddaughter, Ella Kate; son, Daren; sister, Gloria Eddy; brother, Maurice Ferris; and many nieces and nephews.
Following a private graveside service, a memorial service and reception will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Rd, Dallas, TX 75230.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Clayton Dabney Foundation for Kids with Cancer, Chase’s Place, or Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church Choir.
