Lowell Malcolm Baker was born on 12 Dec 1937 in Dallas, Texas to Lowell and Lois Baker. He was a kind and gentle boy who showed a passion for science at a young age. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1956. He then attended the University of Texas to study Chemical Engineering. In 1961, he answered the call of his country and joined the Army. He served in West Germany. Upon arrival, there was a blizzard and his truck became stuck. He volunteered to walk 20 miles in the 0 degree weather to get to his post and notify command of their whereabouts. After his service to the Army and a return to the University, in 1965 he got a job as a process Chemist at Texas Instruments. It was there that he met his dear friend, Parker Lowrance. At Parker’s wedding, he met his future wife, Belva Dee Lowrance. Following this, he took a leave of absence from Texas Instruments to return to the University and complete his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He graduated in January of 1969. Malcom married Belva in February of 1969. In 1971, with a son on the way, Malcom took on a new role as an Analytical Chemist for the Dallas Water Utilities. His boss was excited to have him, but figured he would not stay. Instead, Malcom served the department for 32 years in various roles of increasing authority. He was most proud of his work as an editor for the Standard Method for the Examination of Water and Wastewater. Belva went to be with the Lord on 6 December 1996 after 27 years of marriage. In 2004, he met his dear friend Jean Cipicchio. The two enjoyed spending time together and traveling. They visited numerous destinations in North America, Europe, and Australia.
