He was a customer of mine for several years. He shopped at the grocery stores I worked at. And wouldn't let anyone else wait on him. 
He wasn't the sweetest of people and was very opinionated but he was a great baker of breads and was honored to find out he served in two branches of the armed services.
He will be missed.
