Mae Dell Hudgens Bryant was born October 13, 1939 in Ft. Worth, TX to Leroy and Johnnie Mae Hudgens. She was the oldest of five children, two brothers Leroy Jr. and Rondie (who have proceeded her in death). She is survived by one brother, Donald Earl; and one sister, Patricia Zeno. Mae accepted Christ at an early age. She received her formal education from James Madison High School and pursued her college degree at Texas Southern University. Shortly after, Mae married Jesse William Nelms, (who proceeded her in death August 1977). To this union, Rosalind and Rodney were born.
Mae worked at LTV for several years and was a primary caretaker for the Rollins family. She enjoyed working at the family-owned café (Mae’s Place) as well as spending time with her family and close friends. She became a faithful, active member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church. She later went on to marry Dec. SL Bryant and served as a deaconess.
At 84 years old, she was welcomed into her eternal home of glory by her daughter, Rosalind Ballard.
She leaves to cherish her spirit and memories: son, Rodney William Nelms (Theresa); and a host of
grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
