Mae accepted Christ at the age of eight at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Paris, Texas under the leadership of Rev. M. L. Lewis. She graduated from Gibbons High School in Paris, Texas.
Mae met and fell in love with the love of her life, Carey Tucker, Sr., in High School. They were united in Holy Matrimony on April 2, 1949. They remained a loving couple for the next 69 years until Carey was called to rest in 2018. To this beautiful union, six children were born.
Mae moved with Carey to Dallas, Texas, where they joined Bexar St. Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. L. Robinson, where she served as Deaconess. They later united with Mt. Tabor Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Floyd D. Harris, followed by the leadership of Rev. Stephen C. Nash Sr., where she served as Deaconess for over 30 years.
Mae was employed at and retired from Texas Instruments, where she worked for 26 years.
On Tuesday, April 2, 2024 (the day that would be her and Carey’s 75th wedding anniversary), Mae was called to rest in the arms of the Lord. There she will be met by Carey with a big grin on his face, arms wide open, saying “Git on in here Girl!”. Along with Carey’s welcoming, Mae will be welcomed into her eternal home by daughters, Karen Hampton and Shirley Bowers; granddaughter, Katrice Acox; great-granddaughter, LaGinger Hobbs; great-grandsons, Tyson and Triston Quinn; parents, James and Lou Ella Jones; sister, Faustine Lyons; brothers, James Lyons and John Jones.
Mae leaves her precious memories with her four children, Gwendolyn Walker (Gary), Carey Tucker Jr. (Gail), Altrina Branch (Brian), and Byron Tucker (Trina); thirteen grandchildren, Eric, Derrick, Dadra, Shanequa, Keldrick, Mekisha, James, Tamesha, Carey III, Cade, Andra, Myeasha, and Bria; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Eva Tucker; a brother-in-law, Leville Stephens; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
