September 27, 1957November 2, 2018

Missionary Mamie Louise Shears, daughter of the late Jesse Cox and Vera Cox, was born September 27, 1957 in Rusk, TX. She was raised in the Shady Grove Community and received her education from the Rusk Independent School District where she excelled as an honor student. At any early age she professed her faith in God and joined the Shady Grove Church of God in Christ, were she and the Cox family were dedicated members.

Missionary Shears met and married her high school sweetheart, Ive Dale Shears, affectionately known as “Chuck” on May 15, 1974 and from this union three children were born, Sherod Cox, Sr., LaMeSha Shears, and Ivory Shears. Mamie and Chuck relocated their family to Dallas, TX in 1977, and in 1985 she began her career as a computer programmer for the Department of Justice and retired March 2015, after 30 years of service. She also worked as a crossing guard for the Lancaster Independent School District.

Missionary Shears re-dedicated her life to Christ in 1986 and was a faithful member of Strong Arms Church of God in Christ for over 30 years. Her love for God and her church was proven in her servitude to Strong Arms Church of God in Christ, where she faithfully served as the Choir President, Youth Leader, Prayer and Bible Band President, Sunday School Teacher, Evangelist and newly appointed Mother of the Church. One of her greatest loves was leading the Praise and Worship team. Those that know her, knows she devoted her life to loving and praying for people and she served the Lord with all of her heart.

Missionary Shears was preceded in death by her parents Jesse & Vera Cox, three sisters, LV Bryant, Dora Walker and Jessie Marie Cox; and three brothers: MC Cox, Henry Cox and Johnny Cox. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her three children: Sherod Sr., LaMeSha (Marke’), and Ivory, all of Lancaster, TX; her three grandchildren; Ashanti of Grand Prairie, TX; Sherod Jr., (Camyra) of Lancaster, TX and Rhian of Lancaster, TX; one great-grandchild Serenity; two sisters: Vera Scales (James) and Thelma Bennett both of Dallas, TX and one brother; Jesse Cox (Alice) of Dallas, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and the entire Strong Arms Church of God in Christ family.

Missionary
we miss you so much. We shared so many memories it seems like every corner/street we turn I think of you.
I am so Blessed to have had you in my life.
I wish we could have taken our beach vacation
Rest easy my friend …

John 14:1-3
Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in Goda; believe also in me.
My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
