

Margaret Nell (affectionately known as Mar Nell) Bell, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2020 in her home. She was born in Sikeston, Missouri July 31, 1918 to Halla and A. F. Lindsay. She grew up in Cape Girardeau, MO, attending and graduating from Southeast Missouri State Teachers college where she was a member of the Tri Delta sorority. She learned to fly, soloing in Sikeston, MO, where she met her loving husband, Andy Bell, a pilot during World War ll. They were married April 1, 1944, and soon moved to Dallas, Texas, to begin their life together. She was a volunteer at Dallas Heritage Village, formally Old City Park, for many years, earning her 1,000 hour pin; a member of the Caprice Study Club, the Northway Review Club, Mes Amies and many bridge clubs which she so enjoyed. She sat on boards at UTSW and Baylor Medical Foundation, and was an Honorary member of the President's Advisory Board at UTSW at the time of her passing, also holding a Distinguished Chair in Biochemistry at UTSW. She served as Trustee of the A. L. Chilton Foundation and found great joy in helping so many organizations. Mar Nell, along with her husband, Andy, were charter members of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church. She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Bonnie and Ed Harding of Dallas, Patti Lu and Larry Brown of Dallas, Granddaughter Patti Stephan of Wichita Falls, Grandson Drew and Timberly Harding of Tulsa, Ok., Granddaughter Blair and Bryan Hightower of Lewisville, TX, Granddaughter Erin and Sam Duncan of Fayetteville, AR and 4 great grandchildren, Preston and Jessie Stephan, Andrew Harding and Parker Duncan. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Andy Bell, and her loving brother, Bud Lindsay, of Miami Beach, Florida. The family would like to thank her dedicated caregivers, Maxine Alridge, Gladys Zavata, Rosie Gonzales and Melissa Flores who were so devoted to her well-being. A visitation will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial on N. W. Hwy on Tuesday, May 12, from 5-7 p.m. In order to be respectful to one another due to the current restrictions in place, family and friends are welcome at a remembrance graveside service, with Dr. Stan Copeland officiating, at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 13, 2020. A special recognition of Mar Nell Bell will be held in the 11:00 am a.m. worship service at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church on July 26, 2020.
