Marcello Nicolas Rosen was born on January 1, 1953 in Santiago, Chile of Austrian descent and passed away on August 8, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by Beverly McGowen Stiegler of Dallas; son Jonathan Gray Rosen and wife Allison of Dallas; daughter Whitney Gray Rosen and husband Christopher William Kellstrom of Los Angeles; his children’s mother Dana Gray Card of Dallas; brother Erwin Rosen and wife Tova of Tel Aviv; and niece Leeann and husband Stas Yaganov of Tel Aviv. He was predeceased by his parents Leon and Donia Rosen and his nephew Daniel Rosen. A citizen of the world, Marcello spent his first 16 years in Santiago, Chile. As a teen, his family moved to Tel Aviv, Israel, where he graduated from high school. Shortly thereafter he moved to Texas to attend the University of Houston, where he graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering. During his college years he was drafted by the Dallas Tornados soccer team but declined the offer, electing to continue his studies. However, Marcello remained a lifelong enthusiast of the sport and continued to play for the rest of his life. Marcello began his career in the import-export business in Caracas, Venezuela, where his son was born. He then established a satellite office in Miami, Florida where his daughter was born. Shortly thereafter he moved his family to Houston, where he co-founded the retail chain “A Pea in the Pod.” The company headquarters were moved to Dallas, where his family settled and established deep roots. After taking the company public, Marcello transitioned into the commercial real estate arena with a focus on restaurant development and site selection. He most recently served as senior vice president at Dunhill Partners in Dallas. Marcello had a passion for soccer, travel and a love of fine food. He will forever be remembered by his wide circle of family and friends for his big heart and generous spirit. His loved ones especially admired the strength and humor he portrayed throughout his life, including his courageous battle with cancer. Services are planned for Friday, August 12 at 4:00 p.m. at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in memory of Marcello Rosen to support intercity Dallas youth soccer programs at www.parksouthymca.org.
